EBRD Supports Ukraine’s Reform Process Through Professional Fund Scores of Ukrainian citizens have volunteered to work on particular reforms in order to support the urgent and pressing need for change. Following the parliamentary elections in fall 2014, the citizen volunteers were joined by a new wave of Ukrainian government officials. There is general consensus that retaining and attracting more of this human capital is critical to achieve Ukraine’s reform objectives within the prescribed time frame. The Professionals for Reform Fund (PRF) funds mission-critical professionals who will identify needs and provide relevant and critical technical and managerial resources to government ministries so that they may implement reforms. EDGE has partnered with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to provide seed funding for the PRF with contributions of C$300,000 and C$973,000 respectively (€200,000 and €660,000).
Canada will provide $19.7 million to Canadian organization Société de coopération pour le développement international (SOCODEVI) to promote the growth of small and medium-sized dairy businesses in Ukraine, particularly those led by women. The project assists 10,000 dairy farmers in four of Ukraine’s most important dairy-producing regions—Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Kherson and Ivano-Frankivsk—to improve the quantity and quality of the milk they produce, establish more successful farm businesses and increase their household incomes.
